Summary
 |
Major
risk factors for chronic diseases such as Heart disease, Hypertension,
and many types of Cancer are associated with the locally prevailing lifestyles.
These include insufficient consumption of protective foods such as bran
cereal fiber, and foods containing effective, essential Antioxidants such
as those found in fruits, vegetables, tomatoes, soy foods, and especially
the beverages Black or Green Tea that display highly beneficial effects.
The mechanisms of disease causation involve oxidative processes through
reactive oxygen systems, and oxygen derived free radicals, specific types
of carcinogens undergoing defined metabolic oxidation reactions. In turn,
these lead to alteration of the genetic apparatus of cells, increase cell
duplication rates and growth, decrease potential DNA repair, and overall
changes in bodily tissues.
Both Black and Green Teas are rich in Flavonoids, substances with powerful
Antioxidant properties. Although biochemical oxidation modifies the Flavonoids,
the total level and their overall Antioxidant effect is similar in Black
and Green Teas. The Antioxidants in both Black and Green Teas, are similar
to those found in fruit, vegetables and red wine. And they help the body
fight harmful free radicals which can advance aging, work against the
immune system and play a major role in the development of chronic and
degenerative diseases such as Heart disease and Cancer. They also are
beneficial in lowering the rate of growth of abnormal cells and give rise
to an improved bacterial flora. Black and Green Tea is especially noteworthy
in this respect. An inexpensive, valuable part of the World's food supply
,Tea decreases chronic disease risk and increase healthy longevity.
